O2 World
The new arena in the German federal capital.
The building boom in the German federal capital, Berlin, is continuing. One of the most modern multifunction halls in the world is currently being constructed on the site of the former Ostgüterbahnhofs (East Berlin freight depot). The arena is situation between the Ostbahnhof (East Berlin Railway Station) and the Warschauer Brücke (Warsaw Bridge) and, in future, will be Berlin’s central event hall.
The hall’s completion is planned for the autumn of 2008, after which up to 17,000 spectators will be able to experience sport, concerts and diverse entertainment events in the new hall. The building is owned by the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which has entered into cooperation with O2. Part of this partnership, which is designed to last for 15 years, is the construction of O2World.
HASLINGER was commissioned to supply and assemble the entire steel construction. The two main half-timbered works with spans of up to 80 metres and heights of up to 15 metres constituted a major challenge.
