STUTTGART NEW TRADE FAIR CENTER

On the currently largest building site in Germany – the new exhibition centre in Stuttgart – HASLINGER again distinguished itself as specialist for large-scale construction. The old Stuttgart trade fair center location at Killesberg had become too small due to the requirements of a modern exhibition site. Insufficient transport connections, difficult topography, too few exhibition spaces and, primarily, an absence of options for extension necessitated a completely new development of the area.

At start of construction in September 2004, on behalf of the Neue Messe GmbH & Co KG project company, HASLINGER erected the multi-storey hall (shareholders are the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Verband Region-Stuttgart as well as the state capital Stuttgart itself) on the exhibition grounds at the Stuttgart Airport location. After completion – since the spring of 2007 the first visitors have been streaming into the hall – it has a gross exhibition surface of 25,000 square metres at its disposal, of which approx. 5,000 square metres are on a gallery. The curved suspended roof is reminiscent of a circus tent. This effect was achieved by two mirror-imaged halls being joined together. The freely overspanned surface amounts to 14,500 square metres. The construction weight of the main half-timber frames alone amounts to 2,000 tons.
