The 22-metre game observation tower high above the treetops of the Hohe Tauern National Park offers a striking perspective on the largest continuous stretch of stone-pine forest in the Eastern Alps.
HASLINGER STAHLBAU supplied an exceptional steel construction. The tower construction consists primarily of a galvanized steel structure with four supporting steel pillars, which are connected statically with one another by means of platforms. Thanks to the basic design which opens upwards, the floor area increases spirally from an axial dimension of 2m x 2m in the base area to 5.185m x 5.185m for the topmost viewing platform. The access footbridge simultaneously serves as an anchor and as an anti-tipping mechanism for the entire structure. The steel supporting structure was subsequently clad with pulpwood logs.
For reasons of nature conservation, the installation site was not accessible by vehicle. The entire steel structure had to be prefabricated in units suitable for air transportation so that the assembly could take place using a helicopter.
